Crazies still at the gates of the asylum

Though the contagion of conspiracy theory unleashed by the referendum has poisoned public discourse, the line of civilisation and moderation is still being held by the grown-ups.  Yet that still doesn't stop the crazies, who have escaped their cells but not the asylum, from rattling the bars of the asylum's gates.
Today The Telegraph, continuing to double-down on silliness or acting as a civic servant in exposing the crazies (you decide), says 'ministers are under pressure to restore imperial measures'.  Whether that pressure is an ounce or a ton is, in true weasel fashion, not quantified.  This follows on from protests demanding a return to the old-fashioned British passports discarding EU-burgundy.  Next the asswipes will be demanding the abolition of the Gregorian calendar and get back the 13 days the Europeans stole from the UK; this would be even though it was a British government that adopted it on its own accord and a return to the Julian calendar is another mainland European invention but such ironies do not trouble crazies.
The Telegraph reintroduced the inaccurate alliteration 'metric martyrs', even though they are not martyrs, seeking to discriminate against those not familiar with non-metric measures and can still display 'imperial' weights and measures next to metric measures.  A far more accurate alliteration would be plastic patriots, for what is 'imperial' weights and measures - none other than the avoirdupois system, a French Norman importation.  So what these loons are pushing is something that is synonymous with conquest and oppression by foreigners.  In that regard, that makes them fifth columnists.
Bill Cash, of course, has to stick his oar in, saying, "it would be insane to prosecute anyone for using [the avoirdupois] system," choosing not to add, "I should know.  I'm barking."  The greatest irony though is that the metric system was introduced to this country eight years before the UK joined the EEC/EU and thus Brexit has no impact on it.  At least no impact while the crazies are still held within their newsprint asylums.
